Like I've said before, I freaking love New Zealand.

When I traveled through the North Island, I got the opportunity to visit Rotorua, which is a bit of a cultural centre for New Zealand's Maori people. I loved learning a little bit about their culture, and particularly I enjoyed seeing their extraordinary carvings and art.

Traditionally, Maori men and women would wear ink across their faces and bodies, but obviously that isn't practiced so much anymore (basically cos its super hard to get a job when you have face tattoos).

However, I was lucky enough to see an old woman in Wellington waiting for a bus, who still wore hers, and even a young father in Paihia in the north, also with face tattoos.
Pretty cool!

I loved taking photos of this stuff, carvings are really so beautiful.
