I am LOVING the opportunity at the moment to work with a real editor on my soon to be published novel, Making Friends Alice Dyson. I think it’s still early days in the editing process, but so far it’s been a really great experience.
I think maybe I’ve been trying hard to be published for such a long time, and received so much feedback, critiquing and constructive advice (and just plain ‘I don’t like it’ rejections) that I’ve got pretty thick skin these days. It means when you have an editor who wants to work with you to make your story better, I’m pretty keen to listen to their professional advice and try and learn from the experience. I do hear a lot of stories of writers having problems being edited or receiving advice, but thankfully it's been really great so far.
So even though the process is slow (I want my book to be out like right now!) it has been a really good experience.
But there is still lots of editing to do yet before we are finished.
So I guess that’s what I’ll be focusing on for the next little while :)
Other than that, I’ve been quite slack with my other writing projects, always dreaming of the next shiny novel instead of focusing on the one right in front of me!
My life life is trucking along. It’s been busy I guess. Working full time while trying to keep on top of all my writing is hard work. And my husband is doing really long hours lately too, so it’s just all been quite tiring.
But that’s ok.
I attended a great workshop at my local writer’s centre, and also took a writing holiday in June. So that was one week off my day job to treat my writing as a day job. Which means early mornings and 8 hours of writing a day. It is a really great thing to get the opportunity to focus so hard on my own work everyday, so that was excellent!
Also, it’s really cold these days!
Other than that, just been hanging with my cat. Watching tv. Doing stuff.
Yes, I read loads and loads but also... why so much contemporary? Actually I love contemporary novels, but I love all settings and genre, so do like a bit of variety too!
I’m starting to crave a magic filled fantasy!! So I’ll probably get on that this coming month! :)
I’m also going to read another adult novel after my current read (which is really so wonderful) White Night by Ellie Marney.
I also read A Thousand Perfect Notes (in one sitting) which was really awesome, and the always wonderful Vikki Wakefield.
Here are some books I read this month! I'm sure I read way more than this but the months all run into each other!
And tell me what you've been up to!! :)
I love hearing your stories.
